What You Want For Christmas

i've already passed that list along
Was in the BKD&BC in 2004. Was the Corps Commander (or so it was/is called) for 2 parades, and every wednesday for retreat. Probably the best thing I liked about the Air Force.

Peace and quiet.
Totally by accident I found Darrell Allens story about our time in the Corps. Without a doubt, those years were the most memorable of all my years. Darrell, I will never let you live down breaking my center tom head the day of a performance! If I can track down any of my memorables, I'll get them posted. Feel free to contact me at my e-mail address.

I was part of the 3419th from Nov. 1978-Mar. 1979.

What a memorable time! I can sympathize with Joseph Lovett about the smell from the periodic "Boot Burning" in the back of the squadron building, everyone set their cans of polish aflame, and then worked the liquid wax into the boots... what a job that was!

But then afterwards, somebody had pizza and beverages to enjoy, so it was not all that terrible...

The Blue Knights were scheduled to go into New Orleans to march in Mardi Gras, but I believe that was either cancelled or postponed, due to a threatened or actual policeman's strike in New Orleans.

What DID happen, was a wet trek through Slidell, LA, which was quite challenging, as the Tom Tom guy (sorry, getting older is robbing me of names right now...) collapsed at the end of the parade with his Tom Tom set still on him.

We all went to the emergency room to look after him and cheer him on, but he was fine. He was straining so hard with the cold, the wet, and the weight of those things, but he was a trooper and finished the parade!

It turned out he was both exhausted and dehydrated from sweating so hard and straining so much, but he was fine after a liter of saline solution to fill him up a bit...I think he deserved a medal for bravery!

I have a number of faded pictures from the squadron, and some flaggers images also, which I will post at some point. Many have unfortunately faded, and a number of slides, such as those of the parade I mentioned were ruined by water... :-(

I will scan and upload the other images when I can!

I am glad to see this page here!

Best regards,

Michael Severson

Lt. Wilson was an OK guy. When he got his silver bar we knew he'd grown up. Hugo's Restaurant and Burger Chef are happy memories. Who could forget the airman who stole a bulldozer and ploughed up the squadron area. I still have a photo. Now living in Sydney,Australia. Still have my Blue Knights jacket.

Fond memories of the corps. I remember marching troop changes each day – having to blouse your pants over your boots. Favorite piece to play was, "Watermelon Man" as I loved watching the student's heads bounce around when the off beat started.

Those were the days. Going to Mardi Gras on the "Fuss bus", playing at the Edgewater Mall and doing $7000.00 worth of damage inside to glass breaking. Getting married to Natalie and yes we are still married with 3 wonderful children. Who look at us strangely when we say "move to the position of cleaning your room, move." Anyone who remembers us contact us, we would love to hear from you.

I have fond memories of my 10 months at Keesler AFB and the Corp... the travelling, the marching in parades, especially in the Mardi Gras parades. The corp provided a well needed diversion from the 10 months of tech school.

I found this site just one week ago and have already reconnected to an old friend. I've got memories to share but unfortunately no pics as all was lost while stationed at Homestead AFB when hurricane Andrew hit. Anyone have pics from that era? Would love to have some.

The Corps made KAFB an unforgettable experience. We had our own family there unlike most of the other pingers. We had our great fun times. And if we had a bad time, there was always a Corpsman we could talk to. Most pingers hated tech school. We loved it.

Exotics, Anything different
Loved the Corps. Would do it again even at this advanced age I have achieved. But I hear that the freedoms we had in the 70's have been reined in. Not the Corps, the AF. (ie. Having a beer 3 hours after arriving from Lackland.) They did call us the "Drunk and Stumblers" you know.

Anyone from that era have any old pics, mementos stashed?? I lost all mine while stationed @ Homestead AFB and Hurricane Andrew hit my on-base housing. would appreciate a few scans.

What You Want For Christmas

my horn back!
I need help! When I was leaving Keesler back in 2003 I had my horn stolen or moved on me and to me it was lost forever. It is a silver bach stradavarious, in a brown zip up case, there still may be a patch on the outside of the case reading "National Adjudicators Invitational". In the sleeve there may even be some sheet music with my name on it Joe Schmit or Grand Island High School.

This horn has much sentimental value and I am hoping one last check in the bandroom or maybe someone will help find it. I will pay what it takes to get it back

Please contact me via email: [email protected]

Thanks

Had a great time playing in the Blue Knights. The Blue Knight Boogie is a real stand-out in my memory. Traveling and performing in parades was always great fun. Flying the Aero Club planes was cheap and got me off base before I had privileges to do so. I'm glad to see that the Blue Knight tradition continues.

The corps was the best way to do Keesler. Remember marching in Mardi Gras, getting sick on cheap wine. And afternoon practice - i loved it. There was also an occasional jam session that some of the guys with way better chops than me would join in the evenings. Great times - I only regret that I did not pay more attention to how great it was.
