To retire, been working over 30yrs as a Rural Mail Carrier.
I remember this as some of my best memories during training. Especially marching in the different Mardi Gras parades.

I was with the Blue Knights when we participated in the Sugar Bowl Parade in 1971 when the Air Force Academy was playing against Tennessee. What I recall about going to New Orleans on that trip was that we had arrived quite early before the parade started. They foolishly allowed us to wander off to visit Bourbon Street with instructions to be back before the parade started. And let's just say that there were more than a few Blue Knights who staggered through the Sugar Bowl parade rather than marched it!

Herald soprano. Thanks to the standing pass, I worked as waiter/bartender/bouncer in the Dixieland Lounge in Pascagoula Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights when they had live music. My roommate, Carl Bender, played lead guitar in the band there. Smokey from the Triangle played piano. Rhythm guitar and drummer were Pascagoula locals.

My favorite cadences were Split 9 and Spastic Spider.

What You Want For Christmas

To be with my wife of 45 years, who died from Alzheimer's 9:25AM July 15, 2013
When we heard that a pizza place refused to serve a black airman, we marched down there and told them we would make his place off limits to all airmen if he did it again. The black airman was Gerald Love. I got to know him and when we both got stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA I asked him if he would like to be roommates. He agreed and we became best friends. I met a pretty nursing student at the base dance on January 6th, 1968. We became engaged on August 24th and married on December 14th. Gerald was my best man. He now lives in Texas with a large family including many adopted children that no one else wanted. If only that pizza owner could have seen his heart and not just the color of his skin.

Great Memories from the Blue Knights. Marching in the 1989 Mardi Gras parade is still one of my best memories from my time in the Air Force.

drum Section -- Snare and Drum Sgt my last couple of months
I think Gary Hart was the guy who gave me my audition. Other drummers were Mike Coffee and a guy named Bucannan and Mike Holtz. I had the honor of recruiting the very first female into the Drum Section. We didn't want her as there had never been female members in the Corps other than Fag and Rifle Teams. But she insisted and the Base Commander agreed with her. Other great memories included the Hail and Farewells we had in the old practice bld near the water towers on base. I recently found my old helmet (liner) painted in Blue Knight colors, which prompted me to google this site. If there is a display case for such items on Keesler, I would gladly mail it.

I went through 304x4 Dirt Radio School at Keesler and spent the next 37 years on active duty, all in comm career fields, retiring a Colonel in 2011. Highlights included commanding the 92 CS and 52 CS , serving as the MNSTC-I J6 for a year in 2009, and Drum Sgt, Keesler Blue Knights!

Was in the D&B from April to September 1965 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Also had the chance to go through my first hurricane, Betsy, while at Keesler. Remember playing for troop change everyday as the folks on B shift would march off to classes and the troops from A shift would march coming from school. Also remember playing for the monthly parades on the flight line and watching the medics dragging the troops who had passed out to the ambulances in the back. Overall, a great experience and enjoyed my time there. Ended up going career and spent 20 years, 6 months and 18 days in the USAF, 11 years overseas including a year in Vietnam, retired as a SMSgt.
